The Product Junkie in Me

In my heart of hearts I am a product junkie. Like there seriously needs to be a Beauty Products Anonymous for girls like me. You don’t even want to know what my shower looks like. I just moved to a new apartment and there are fully two HUGE (by New York standards) shelf areas in my tub that are stuffed with products. Of course, it doesn’t help that my roommate is a product junkie as well but since he is a dude his products are never the same as mine. Thus bathroom overload! This problem has only become exacerbated by the fact that free goodies by the swagload are making their way into our home via gift bag and review sample alike.

So I thought I ought to start a “what Julie is obsessed with now” report for those boring Friday afternoons at work. They say narrative sells so let’s hope that my love o’products helps out the little guys.

Not sure if they are a little guy but yesterday I tucked into the swag bag from the Sunsilk party and pulled out a bottle of Dashing Diva nail polish in Prima Donna Pink for my semi-regular pedicure. The nail place next door to me has massage chairs and I like to go get my toes done and read the rags while someone else takes care of my toes. As I came out of the salon with my new toe color carefully placed in my Marc Jacobs flip flops I officially decided it is my new favorite nail polish.

My other new obsession is Zia. From their press release Zia Natural Skincare has committed to crafting premium quality beauty products using whole foods, pure essential oils and healing botanical extracts.” I have been playing around with their sugar scrub and anti-aging cleansers but the two products that are far and away my favorites are The Ultimate Body Butter and the Ultimate Face Moisture

The body butter has possibly EVERYTHING good in it including lavender, shea butter, neroli, rosehips, ginko, mango butter and more! It is meant to promote cellular regeneration which I imagine at my age I don’t need but I figure it is never too early to start and it just feels sooooooooo damn good. The face moisture cream also has EVERYTHING good in it with moisture-restoring amino acids to protect and soften thirsty skin and a blend of vitamins A, C, D and E, yeast extract, green tea plus a fancy schmancy multi-nutrient liposome complex meant to deliver nourishment deep within the skin. All I can say is that the stuff absorbs so fast it boggles the mind.

Zia is owned by the Hain Celetial Group which also happens to own like all of the natural food brands I grew up with as a crunchy kid in Boulder Colorado including Celestial Seasons, Garden of Eatin’, West Soy, Arrowhead Mills and all that other good stuff so I feel double awesome about Zia. Way to go rational Julie!

And last but not least I am totally digging the samples I got from Whish a line of speciality shaving creams for women. While I am normally a girl that simply applies whatever random body wash is lying about the shower for her shaving needs I was pleasantly surprised by Whish. I used the Almond Shave cream as it is meant for dry skin and was pretty pleased to find that it actually made shaving a bit easier. But the real perk was honestly the smell. It smelled just like marzipan. mmmmmmmmmm. It also has a neat shimmer to it which is also somehow irrationally pleasing.

That’s the way I like it! Extreme pink with a side of shine

  3. Hi, Julie ! It’s Scaree Gee-Oh! blogging against all odds from my ruin in the South of France, in the middle of a heat wave – to boot! My absolute can’t do without “ethical” beauty prods? The Natura line from Brazil. The body stuff is so yummy, you can stick it on your face – which is pretty pointless since they’ve just launched a face care line! XXG

You know you’ve got a good skin care product when it smells so good, it makes you want to eat it. Except maybe shampoo. That would just be weird.

Dashing Diva has a couple of locations around the city–I’ve been to the one on Columbus and 88th, and there’s another one in the East 70s, plus I think a few more. A little cutesy for my taste, but I like their colors too!

  7. [...] But last week I finally discovered a manicure place I can stand by! I popped into Dashing Divas on University and 8th for a major mani-pedi because Laura Rubin hooked me up and I have been touting their polishes for a while. They are amazing when it comes to sanitation but that isn’t why I am obsessed with Dashing Diva. In some whacky fit of fall ambition I decided to get burgundy nails figuring hey why not? And you know what? The lasted an entire week without chipping! Can you see how crazy amazed I am? [...]
