Looking at the maps now you can just see how it is a walking tour of Julie’s little downtown world. Last week I made it into the wonderful Lilith so it was only natural that I made it the hop skip and a jump across the street to Lisa Shaub’s Fine Millinery boutique.
Lisa is an amazing artist and her boutique really speaks to her dedication and sincere aesthetic appreciation of craft. She hand makes and hand dyes all of her hats. I was particularly impressed with her materials especially the Toyo Straw. It is manufactured in China from paper fibers. The straw dyes up beautifully, and as it gets older, fades in a manner similar to denim. The mere idea of having a hat that will fade and grow with me just like a perfect pair of comfy jeans is just delightful.
