I’m sorry I haven’t had a chance to blog this yet! I have been snowed in but I wanted to post some videos and photos from the Adel Roostein Mannequins 50th Anniversary Party.
Really and truly it was a spectacular event. I was just floored by the artwork and I had to reign myself in to not go CRAZY with quips about simulation and simulacra. And while my academic friends hate when I do this I am going to post a wiki for context:
Simulacra and Simulation is most known for its discussion of images, signs, and how they relate to the present day. Baudrillard claims that our society has replaced all reality and meaning with symbols and signs, and that in fact all that we know as real is actually a simulation of reality. The simulacra that Baudrillard refers to are signs of culture and media that create the reality that we perceive.
Please watch my interview with Mr. Kevin Arpino, the Creative Director of Adel Roostein, discuss the models, the mission, the ideal, and the fantasy. I promise it will change your perspective on fashion forever!

Wow. The art is just stunning here and a great reflection of the industry’s history and where it will go. Great presentation!
Ohh god everything is a construct! AAAAAHH!
It’s a photo of a photo! AYYYYYYYYY!!
So anything new? what are your thoughts recently on this? The sign is more important than the signified. The sign sells the product, the sale is the goal. The product, the bit that is real is secondary to the sale, the bit that’s the simulacrum.
