Now nails have always been a mystery to me. I hear that you can carefully discern a person’s class from that state of their cuticles, thus even the scruffiest Misshapes hipster girl will reveal her trust fund status with her freshly manicured fingers.
Clearly I am not at the top of the economic food chain because I just can’t abide the notion that I should shell out $10 bucks a week to have my nails done. It isn’t so much the money, which is negligble, as the time that gets me. I don’t like the idea of losing half an hour to such a silly detail. But seeing as it is Memorial Day Weekend I must come to terms with the fact that sandal season is upon us and even I don’t like scruffy toes.
So, I made a trip to Ricky’s and got myself ready to show my tootsies to the world!

Three weeks ago I shelled out some dough to get my toes done up nice so I figured that even with a slightly old pedicure refreshing it couldn’t be too hard right? I mean how bad do those toes look? With pumice, pedicure kit, and fresh Essie nail polish at the ready how badly could things really go?

After taking off the last layers of polish, clipping, and rubbing oil into my toes things actually look pretty damn bad. Had I single handedly ruined my last pedicure by trying to do it own my own? Bare toes don’t look very sexy. Sure Vogue ran an article last summer about bare feet but even those took hourly pedicures once a week to maintain. But thankfully a few coats of polish and a top coat later, and with the help of those handle cuticle pushers to smudge away the excess color I think I did ok! Thus proving that the occasional glamour of my life gives way to almost as I struggle with basic tasks like pedicures. Beauty is a bitch!

You are too cute! I must admit I have NEVER had a pedicure. I simply hack away at my growth with scissors. The time and money is an issue. This year as I’m out attempting to impress people I’ve decided my new tactic is closed-toe sandals =P
I tried to find an open toed sandal that would work for the whole season and had NO luck. Sigh…..so I did my toes instead. Path of least resistance
I LOVE Ms. Manicure, but the foot scrubber is a little flimsy. Feels so good when your done, no? They look cute! So summery.
[...] Julie, at Almost Girl, the most intelligent blog I read by a long shot, struggled a bit with freshening up her toenails over the weekend. She just is not as tuned in as I am to the notion that these details are really important! However, she said this in her post from over the holiday weekend, leading me to believe that her struggle with the details of beauty as a whole is very voluntary (*wink*): […]you can carefully discern a person’s class from that state of their cuticles, thus even the scruffiest Misshapes hipster girl will reveal her trust fund status with her freshly manicured fingers.
