State of The Fashion Union: Countdown To Fashion Week 6.0 Daily Summary Why Does Everyone Think We Are Stupid?

So many fun posts and so little time in today’s State of The Fashion Union Round-Up for Day 6 of our Countdown to Fashion week!

To prove we aren’t entirely out of the loop in our little fashion bubble the witty Blingdom of God attempts to remember the actual State of The Union, fails miserably, and asks the timeless question in honor of the red/blue state divide ” Can a blingdom divided against itself stand?” Whatever the answer you can wear your bling for couture, chastity, or a better love life!

Keeping in the theme of intelligent and informed fashion blogging Teen Fashionista asserts that you can read Vogue and The Wall Street Journal. To which I say when the world got depressing I canceled my subscription to The Economist and started reading fashion magazines. The rest as they say is history! Casey thinks people make unfair assumptions about fashionistas and their intellect to which I say making assumptions makes an ass out of you and me!

The Fashionable Kiffen continues in our theme, believing that women in fashion have an image problem, that image being our intellect. She quotes Mary Woodward saying “You are not a less intelligent or worthy woman for enjoying fashion. Remember, Simone de Beauvoir wore Chanel.” I wish I wore Chanel, but then I am not Simone de Beauvoir either!

Still there are some in the blogosphere that are interested not in our intellect but in our glamour! Coolchiq however is NOT jealous at all. In fact, she is sure that no matter what a faaaabulous time we have she just doesn’t like that sort of thing. Well I have to say neither do we! We are citizen fashionista journalists here and we do it for our reading public! Free fashion!

However, Spirit Fingers doesn’t seem to think fashion needs saving. In fact, from her vantage point fashion is doing just fine and dandy.

Though it would seem fashion is doing quite well in some places in the world. The Aussies at Camarilla give love over great Aussie indie designers like Sass & Bide, Lover, Willow & Karen Walker! Let’s all go down under!

And for more positive takes on the fashion scene La Dolce Divas talk about the beauty of growing older and enjoying looking your age. To which I say hooray because frankly I am 22 and I can’t stand the clothing the designers make for me their supposedly ideal demographic!

Other random tidbits in the round up include Sam Lyster of A Clean Pair of Heels from the Times UK looks forward to L.A.M.B and Denim News discusses the cheap Paper Denim & Cloth trend. Moose in The Closet gets upset over high prices and insists that style doesn’t require money. My response? You can’t dress yourself for free unless you are in the industry, in which case you just make a few phone calls.

And for a final explanation for the hoi polloi and the plebians wonder what the heck is up with this fashion week thing Girlawhirl fills you in.

  1. This is like my post on Fashionistas in the media (fashionistas =/= shallow). I sent that to Style Tribe, but are you doing this now? Do I need to send it to you?

  2. “My response? You can’t dress yourself for free unless you are in the industry, in which case you just make a few phone calls.”

Ah, how I wish I did. Instead I just look rather slovenly. Hence, my attempt to make myself feel better. The high price of a low paying job.

P.S. I would totally sell my soul for those manolos, but there seems to be a dearth of buyers at the moment.
