UPDATE: Seems the whole of the blogosphere is up in arms about Randall’s bad behavior. I think you have shown your true colors. And you know what? No one likes a backstabber. I am saddened to have lost my faith in what I thought was an upstanding human being. Rebecca you have my support! You pulled it together so well. You lost nothing! Only Randall lost out by doing this. He showed his true colors.
I agree that Randal showed his true self tonight…something his new coworkers and boss(es) should look out for. I don’t think Rebecca would have done the same to him.
To me, it’s just good business to hire Rebecca as well. If you have two projects and need to hire a second person for the other project anyway, why on earth NOT pick someone who almost won? Now what will he do, hire someone off the street? Shift people around internally? Come on!
Personally… I think (and have begun to think this for a while) that Trump is getting old. This whole apprentice thing is really to pump young blood into the organization. Look at how he totally gave that last decision to Randal, and practically kissed up to him and let him have his way! Who’s the boss here?
If Trump wanted Rebecca, why on earth not just hire her? Why not TELL Randal, why ask him? I’ll tell you why, because he’s getting too old and can’t handle these decisions anymore.
I agree. Trump showed remarkable lack of leadership on this one. If had been him I would have said Randall you have a poor attitude about this and I am bringing Rebecca on anyway. The girl is talented and has integrity, Randall only has one of those two. I think you need more in business. Rebecca certainly would have been the bigger man and brought Randall on if the situation were reversed
Not to mention Rebecca should easily have the same academic record as Randall if she were 34! She has a U of C undegrad degree, frankly she is just younger. And if she gave him a run for his money at 24 think what she can do in ten years.
Good comments.
From what I have been reading on the Web about all of this, it is clear that the vast majority of people feel that 1) Randall betrayed himself by his final selfish and graceless act and 2) Trump betrayed his own principles by leaving the decision to Randall and not doing what was clearly in the best interest of his organization.
Those who have supported Randall and Trump usually do so in terms of the game model (as if this was the Olympics or a Beauty Pagent) that allows for only one winner. A few have played the race card (usually without any acknowledgement of the obstacles that women can face in the business world). The race card is revolting and demeaning to both Randall and Rebecca. The game model misses the point — the show is about business and Mr. Trump missed an opportunity to teach an important lesson about business: In good business, there are multiple winners.
Why on Earth should Randal share the spotlight with Rebecca, a lucky finalist?
